Does covid affect children?

  • I am always curious about the different kind of news coming about covid each day. At the start it was said that people above 13 are the main affected ones. I would like to know if the new variant of covid is capable of attacking children below 13. I am tensed because my child is below the age 13.

My child was born during the pandemic and luckily didn’t suffer any interactive skills however I know so many people who had children during the pandemic and they struggled when being introduced to new people both kids and adults, and were very clingy to the parents, having terrible separation anxiety especially when putting them in childcare settings. It just shows what happens if you do not socialise your children.

My concern is different. The government put these age criteria based on little test cases and experiences as this pandemic is still evolving. So how can we be sure even if WHO or any organization give such age criteria and asks public not to panic?

One theory is that because children have young immune systems, and they do not develop the very aggressive immune response known as a cytokine storm that adults form when they get the virus. It is that intense reaction to the virus that helps perpetuate damage in the lungs and other organ systems, often irreversibly harming adult patients.
